Substances

This programme has been created to support the substance misuse youth worker as well as all the services and agencies in the area that tackle the issue of substance misuse amongst young people.

The availability of substances, legal or illegal, that can be misused can be alarming and worrying.

Very often Young people turn to substances because of pressure, their friends, wanting to fit in, wanting to experiment; feel something else; use something that would help them cope with their emotions.

The Base operates a drug free environment and we are here to encourage young people to understand these different substances and their effects so that they can make informed choices and be safe in a non-judgmental way.

The young people can be offered counselling or treatment whenever they are ready to take that step as well as being supported with the daily issues that might rise from misusing various substances and that through encouraging them to deal with problematic use or preventing risks associated with misuse of various substances.
