Mind Matters
This is a programme for young people who need any type of support around their mental well being. Various stressful situations can have an effect on the young people’s mental health like being bullied, not getting on well in school, too much pressure from parents, a clash with family, break ups, substance, un-planned pregnancy, they are all things than can effect young people and can result in them feeling overwhelmed. It can take different forms, from feeling down and blue, to feeling depressed, stressed, frustrated, angry, and anxious or not seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Sometimes the only way young people can express themselves is through self harm or even taking their own lives. We are here to help and support, by making referrals to the appropriate services and advocate for the young person during the process as well as providing counselling or complementary therapies.
Counselling:
Young people will have access to counselling and one to one sessions including addiction counselling all in partnership with HSE services. In addition, counsellors and therapists from other services will have access to the health suite and the snoezelen equipment for their sessions with their young clients.
Complementary therapies:
(Therapeutical massage, Reiki, acupuncture, homeopathy)This is a free service for young people linked in already with the Base as well as young people referred to us by schools, youth services or any other agency.(We would hope that the service will be available to all young people in the future) the therapies proved very successful especially around relieving stress, anger and anxiety.
